Why does push-pull feel so good and work so well, from tremendous powder swoops to critical ice control? I think a scientific investigation with readouts from strain gauges and spring scales would show that foot pressure remains unchanged for a long time throughout the turn, allowing the board to st...

Sliding is a dirty word, but maybe they slide like a Formula One racing car slides- just a short distance directly into the trench as it is being produced where the high edge pressure projects the snow rooster tail. Regarding a less exquisite form of carving: The Swiss Skibo patent involves .2mm dee...

Just back from a week of wild riding on a carload of boards, Nils. When I felt brave I relinquished the safety of the slide and carved my ancient Gnu/Kastinger setup modified for central stance and high forward angles, very stiff and unforgiving. Rather than a Pulman seat, it feels like a mountain b...

Thanks, Tom, I see the significance of your points. I was thinking that having heel and toe turns feel very similar would help in our progression towards linking them low. Indeed, the extreme position has it's own special requirements, and we seem to be very much at the mercy of the board characteri...

What about assymetric?

Does the assymetric board approach in http://www.pureboarding.com/ have any significance?
Coming from soft boot beginnings I don't know at what binding angle an assym board is no longer helpfull to achieve centering.

I wonder if a steep slope helps recovery from the laid position?
After all, at the end of a turn on a 30 degree slope, your body cant be laid more than 60 degrees. So you are still touching the snow as you perform the "pull" of the 'push- pull" turn......

Hello, Jaques. We of the slower, softboot brigade rarely attempt the purest carve which leaves a single line on the snow. We compromise by setting up a small skid (shear) all the way around the turn, and only try to tighten it when our tracks start to look really wide. If we manage a track about hal...

How much carve, how much slide?

A poster in another forum said of the movie: "Those blokes are just sliding around". Maybe a purist insists on a single line on the snow, but my definition of a slide is when the edge loses it's tight radius which has been created under turn pressure. But do you deliberately retain a certain amount ...

Carving a Circle?

Maybe like a skating figure, is this a good exercise on a flat piste to improve your control? It doesnt seem to work on a slope, no matter how much speed you have to begin with.. :(
